   Hello, it depens on what kind of communication you want to train - whether it is internal communication within team or external towards partners, stakeholders; or communication in written form or spoken etc. If it is about presentaion and communication to an audience, practical approach is the best - to let the participants present and give them instant feedback with some hints, tips and tricks. Very helpful can be also to show some examples from praxis. Me personally, I always prefer to train with somebody - it is an advantage to be able to complement each other and it is also good for participants to have some diversity in facilitators (different personalities, approach, etc.).

   To add on to Barbora's good points, half of communication is listening. Most people will already have a predisposition in their mind of you being wrong or right, and may ignore the nuances in your argument to just win based on what they already agree with. To practice, I would find someone who you know is a good listener and can interact and challenge you with questions, but, more importantly, wants the communication's result to be an impartial better place.
