leisure time spend with colleagues

Do you think there is a need to spend some leisure time with your colleague e.g. beer, sport events on purpose to good co-operate with them? I personally think not, some of my colleagues say yes, but I can not say that their beer seesions have a positive impact on their cooperation and professional results. Maybe their working results are worse. What do you think about that?

  1. I think having a good relationship with colleagues is important for the psychological well-being of individuals and ican also help increase the work performance of the group. So, to sum up, I think it is necessary to spend some leisure time with colleagues.

  2. It depends on who the colleague is. I wouldn't advise a manager to socialize with his/her team too much, but if teammates become good friends, they can create a great and funny office atmosphere ...and it is the manager's role to avoid them drinking coffee and gossiping for the whole workday :-) For me the group/team leisure activities make most sense when there is something work-related to celebrate - e.g. a project success, excellent results or a good year. To make people aware that they have achieved a common success, everyone has contributed and everyone is benefitting from it. There are many ways to build good relationships with colleagues directly in the workplace - e.g. occasional "corridor" talks, giving people option to ask for a meeting if they have something important to resolve, supporting people where possible and listening to them (and their feelings) in general.
