The critical chain method seems to be only some other name for the „critical path met-hod“.

Impact

The critical chain is a sequence of initially noncritical activities ending in any critical activi-ty. This sequence can endanger the dates on the critical path in the result of some pro-ject risk lengthening its duration (e.g. these activities will have a lack of resources).

Recommendation

Critical chain method is used in conditional scheduling with making provision for the re-source availability on the critical chain. Conditional scheduling is the second step of the project time planning, making provision for known project prerequisities. It is based on the resource leveling, resource scheduling and the critical chain method. The result of the conditional project scheduling is the interim project schedule. Project prerequisities are all factors needed for the project realization. The examples are for instance: required resources, manageable constraints, fullfilled assumptions etc.
