The preparation of an afinity diagram includes following steps: 1. to enumerate and record all ideas without evaluating their fitness for use, 2. to arrange the recorded ideas into groups of the most important topics, 3. to entitle each group, 4. to segment and arrange the ideas from each group into subgroups. The resultant diagram is used to construct a „fisch bone diagram“ of causes and effects.
